What's in a word? You would be surprised how deciding to use the word "objective" instead of the word "change" creates a drastic difference in response from most people. Although we live in an environment that is constantly changing meeting these life changes can feel disruptive and stressful. I have used this method of choosing the alternate word "objective" to retrain my brain to accept the transition. I recall asking myself why I was so resistant to "change" and I realized that most changes come about in our lives without our approval or prior notice. By using the word "objective' there is an understanding that I had some say in the type of transition that would ensue. Even if it came without notice I found that if I was rooted firm in the objectives I set for myself the less disruptive the wave of change. Decisions became easier because if they didn't line up with my main objective I did not consider it an optional route. This was a major stress reducer. When life wanted to throw something difficult in my direction I was forced to reassess my objectives in life. Would I let it stop me in my tracks or would I use my ability to set firm objectives to pull me through? Lately life has been a little of both wanted and unwanted objectives, but adjusting our perception of them gives us the tool we need to face them head on.
